ES Group will develop a conceptual solution for large amount of contaminated water treatment generated after severe accidents

In accordance with a signed contract between SE NNEGC Energoatom and ES Group LLC (Ukraine), a part of Czech-Ukrainian group of companies ES Group, will work on a conceptual solution for large amounts of contaminated water treatment that might be generated after a severe accident. Given contract was signed on April 11, 2022, based on tender results.

This conceptual solution is to be developed based on the analysis and research for the purpose of water amounts and radioactivity assessment that generated during severe accident.

ES Group is going to analyze international experience concerning large amounts of contaminated water disposal after severe accidents as well as corresponding measures implementation experience of NPP operators according to “stress tests” results (ENSREG).

In the course of work, ES Group is going to define and justify severe accident scenarios including actions of the staff for further analysis according to severe accident management guide. Furthermore, within severe accidents scenarios the analysis of accumulated radioactive water will be prepared. This analysis will be carried out for all three power unit projects which are being operated at Ukrainian NPPs namely, reactor facility VVER 1000/V-320, VVER 1000/V-302 and VVER 440/V-213.

Based on these works, conceptual solution of large amounts of liquid radioactive waste treatment taking into account each NPP site specifications will be elaborated. The solution will also include specific measures which should be implemented in case a hypothetical severe accident occurs.

The conceptual solution of large amounts of contaminated water generated after severe accidents will be developed according to the National plan of actions which is formed based on Ukrainian NPPs stress tests results and other Ukraine’s standard documents.

Such an assignment is relevant especially these days when several cases of russian federation’ s acts of nuclear terrorism took place in Ukraine, particularly at Ukrainian NPPs.
