The competition of scientific projects in the field of nuclear science, nuclear energy and industry “Nuclear innovators” took place

A unique competition of scientific projects “Nuclear Innovators” has been initiated this year with the goal to promote inventions in the field of nuclear energy. The event should become an annual field-specific contest for scientists, students and specialists.

The competition was launched by the Ukrainian Nuclear Society in 2023 with participation of two Councils of Young Scientists from the Department of Physical and Technical Energy Problems and the Department of Nuclear Physics and Energy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. The partners of the competition included such leading companies in the nuclear industry as SE NNEGC “Energoatom”, Cameco Corporation, Energy Safety Group, and Phoenix Contact.

The initiative aims to motivate the industry specialists for developments, inventions, innovative approaches that will contribute to the progress of nuclear energy in Ukraine, improve the efficiency of production processes and influence the future advances in nuclear science and technology, and also contribute to safety enhancement of the nuclear facilities.

The competition jury included Yuri Sheyko, Acting First Vice President and Technical Director of SE NNEGC Energoatom; Olexandr Depenchuk, Director for Nuclear and Radiation Safety SE NNEGC Energoatom; Volodymyr Kravchenko, Head of the Department of Nuclear Power Plants of the National University “Odessa Polytechnic”; Anatoliy Nosovskiy, Director of the Institute for Safety Problems of Nuclear Power Plants NAS of Ukraine; Evaldas Zemolochinas, Cameco Corporation; Ph.D. Olexandr Mazurok, Technical Director, Energy Safety Group (ES Group); Andriy Maksymets, CEO of Phoenix Contact.

After evalution of the results the jury selected two winners: Pavlo Kuznetsov won the first place in the nomination “Applied Development” with his project “Optimization of corrective phosphonate treatment of cooling water of the circulating service water system of the Rivne NPP using the variability criterion”; the nomination “Scientific research” was taken by Eduard Klyuev with the research project “Innovative approaches to solving the problem of containerization of low- and medium-level radioactive hazardous waste”.
