ES Group is a partner of the annual “Nuclear Energy and the World” 2023 Essay Competition
The essay competition “Nuclear Energy and the World” 2023, organized annually by the NGO Ukrainian Nuclear Society (UkrNS), was held in two stages. The first stage of the competition consisted in pre-qualification of assays in electronic form by the jury members. The second final stage of the competition took place in an online format, where 25 high school students became its participants from the satellite cities of the Ukrainian nuclear power plants: Netishin, Varash, Yuzhnoukrainsk and adjacent territories, the cities of Slavutich, Kharkiv, Lviv, Kyiv, Dnipro, Zelenoyarsk.
The winner and Grand Prix holder of the competition was a schoolgirl from the city of Kharkiv, winner of the qualifying stage in her city, Kateryna Chkuaseli with the essay “Problems of the development of thermonuclear energy in the world and Ukraine.” Based on the results of the evaluation of the works, the jury also determined other winners of the competition: 1st place – Sofia Kuzmenko with the essay on the theme “Power engineer is a promising profession in post-war Ukraine”, the city of Shepetivka, 2nd place – Vita Muntyan, with the essay on the theme “Nuclear energy in Ukraine during the war: how can we protect ourselves”, the city of Mykolaiv; 3rd place – Evgeniya Ilyushkina, with the essay on the theme “Comparison of the operation of a nuclear power plant with a small modular and pressurized water reactor”, the city of Yuzhnoukrainsk.
In their works, the participants discussed the issues related to the nuclear industry and electric power industry in Ukraine during war; prospects of the industry development; development of thermonuclear energy; energy saving and reliable energy supply to consumers and the role of nuclear energy in this direction; environmental aspects of nuclear energy, etc. Also, among the topics of the essays were those covering the role of nuclear physics in medicine, as well as the profession of energy engineers, and a study of interest in obtaining this specialty among the younger generation.
Technical Director of ES Group and Member of the Board of UkrNS, Oleksandr Mazurok, noted the high level of preparation of the contest participants, the relevance of the themes and studies conducted. Supporting talented youth is a separate and important area of activity for ES Group. After all, the company has always been focused on the development of nuclear energy, and today’s support for future industry specialists demonstrates this in the best possible manner.
