ENERGY SAFETY GROUP PARTICIPATED IN THE INUDECO CONFERENCE
ENERGY SAFETY GROUP traditionally took part in the INUDECO conference. The IXth International Conference on Nuclear Decommissioning and Environmental Recovery INUDECO 2024 was held from April 24 to 26 in the city of Slavutych, under the topic “INUDECO. Nuclear Energy: Security Challenges in the Time of War.”
The conference included an international panel led by the Ukrainian Nuclear Society on the topic “Nuclear Threat to Ukraine and the World: Consequences of the Zaporizhzhya NPP’s Occupation”. The panel was opened by Dmytro Verbytskyi, Acting General Director of the Branch of Subdivision “Zaporizhzhya NPP” of JSC NNEGC “Energoatom”, with the report on the current state of the Zaporizhzhya NPP since its occupation and measures to restore plant safety. Nataliya Rybalko, Director of the Department on Safety of Radiation Technologies and Radioactive Waste Management of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate of Ukraine (SNRIU), Deputy State Inspector on Nuclear and Radiation Safety of Ukraine, reported on the wartime regulatory chellenges, in particular on inability to conduct activities at the ZNPP.

This year’s conference consisted of 5 sections: “Safety challenges and sustainability of the energy sector in times of the war”; “Innovation in the energy sector: sustainable development, green energy, new technologies”; “Problems of decommissioning of nuclear power facilities”; “State of the NSC and the ChNPP Exclusion Zone”; “Ecocide: the impact of war on the environment in Ukraine”.
