ENERGY SAFETY GROUP JOINED THE EUROPEAN SMR INDUSTRIAL ALLIANCE
We are pleased to announce that ENERGY SAFETY GROUP joined the European Industry Alliance on Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) in April this year. The European SMR Industry Alliance was launched by the European Commission to bring together industry, policy makers, regulators and the public to promote and accelerate the development, demonstration and deployment of SMRs in Europe by the early 2030s.
The Alliance brings together SMR developers, researchers, financial institutions, operators, regulators, training centers, and civil society organizations to work together on a strategic action plan to accelerate the deployment of small modular reactors.
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, russia has been systematically destroying Ukraine’s power grid, distribution networks and energy facilities. The deployment of small modular reactors in combination with renewable energy generation facilities will help cover the needs for electricity and heat supply. The use of thermal power plant sites for the construction of SMRs will reduce capital investment and lower the cost of nuclear power plant construction projects.
In addition, according to the European Commission, the European Industry Alliance on Small Modular Reactors will help support the safe and cost-effective development of a dynamic and innovative nuclear energy supply chain in Europe, contribute to the creation of a large domestic SMR market and a strong industrial base in line with the EU Green Deal Industrial Plan and the Net-Zero Industry Act.
