NUCNEXT-2025: THE FUTURE OF NUCLEAR ENERGY — SYNERGY BETWEEN SCIENCE, ENGINEERING, AND TECHNOLOGY

Energy Safety Group partnered with the VII International Conference NUCNEXT-2025, titled «Prospects for the Implementation of Innovations in Nuclear Energy», which took place in Kyiv on 25-26th September. The event was organized by the Ukrainian Nuclear Society in collaboration with JSC «NNEGC «Energoatom», the Institute for Nuclear Power Plant Safety Problems of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and the Council of Young Scientists at the Department of Energy and Energy Technologies of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.

The conference attracted more than 200 attendees, including representatives from nuclear energy companies, government agencies, and international experts and scientists. Over the course of the two-day event, participants discussed key challenges and opportunities in the development of nuclear energy. The discussions focused on modernizing and ensuring the NPPs safety, fostering innovation, addressing human resource needs in the industry, and tackling challenges arising from the war, particularly the occupation of the Zaporizhzhya NPP.

The Energy Safety Group’s involvement as a conference partner highlights the company’s strategic position as a trusted expert and partner in nuclear energy safety and development. Participating in this event offers a valuable opportunity to promote professional discussions and strengthen its role in creating a pioneering and secure energy future for both Ukraine and the EU.

As a leading authority in intricate engineering project management, Energy Safety Group diligently works to enhance the efficiency, reliability, and safety of energy facilities. The conference discussed the following areas:

  • extending the operating life of existing NPPs and constructing new reactor units, while incorporating design innovations to enhance safety and efficiency.
  • trends in the development of reactor technology and the implementation of innovative solutions.
  • new materials and technologies that ensure the safe and efficient operation of NPPs.
  • advances in improving the safety and physical protection of nuclear facilities, particularly under wartime conditions.
  • innovations in spent fuel management, radioactive waste handling, and radioecology.
  • new approaches to communication in the nuclear energy sector, including efforts to combat misinformation and promote scientific understanding.

«NUCNEXT-2025 demonstrated that the future of nuclear energy hinges on a combination of expertise, technology and responsibility. Participating in the conference confirmed our commitment to strengthening safety and sustainable development in the energy sector», said Oleksandr Mazurok, General Director of ES Group LLC (part of the group of companies Energy Safety Group).

A comprehensive approach is essential for the development of nuclear energy, as highlighted during the recent conference. Participants emphasized the importance of legislative support for the nuclear sector, including the implementation of institutional changes, provision of investment incentives, and adoption of new technologies. The discussions paid particular attention to Ukraine’s energy system, focusing on the role of nuclear generation, the need for new capacity, and the development of educational programs. Emphasis was also placed on enhancing safety and sustainability within the industry, as well as the importance of international cooperation and introducing innovations to address modern challenges.

Following the conference, a decision was adopted. This decision aimed at strengthening Ukraine’s energy security. It also aimed at integrating Ukraine into the global nuclear community.
