ENERGY SAFETY GROUP’S ENGINEER TOOK PART IN THE TRAINING PROGRAM OF ARGONNE NATIONAL LABORATORY AND SSTC NRS

Oksana Dovha, a student at the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” and an engineer in the Probability Analysis Department at Energy Safety Group LLC, has joined the training course under the Ukraine Summer Internship Argonne National Laboratory Program 2025. The course for Ukrainian university students, based at the SSTC NRS in Kyiv, included lectures by Argonne National Laboratory (ANL) specialists and Ukrainian experts, practical classes, interactive sessions, and an outreach visit to the Chernobyl zone.

The three-week training program was conducted in English and structured into modules focusing on different topics related to nuclear power plant safety and contemporary risk management strategies. The lectures covered the plant safety systems and reliability, defense in depth (DiD) strategy and approaches to operational safety; as well as risk-informed approaches to decision-making and fundementals of the PRA/PSA for nuclear power units. Practical exercises and interactive sessions included case studies on risk assessment and response to events.

Oksana Dovha noted: The program combined modern approaches to nuclear and radiation safety with practical case studies. Particularly useful were the modules on risk-informed decision making and practices related to PRA/PSA – something that is directly applied in our projects”.

The professional development of young engineers is a strategic priority for ENERGY SAFETY GROUP. The involvement of our specialists in events such as the summer school supported by ANL enhances our team’s proficiency and fosters the implementation of high-standard engineering in projects aimed at improving the safety of nuclear power plants”, emphasized Oleksandr Mazurok, General Director of Energy Safety Group LLC.
