ENERGY SAFETY GROUP AND ZAT A.S. CONTINUE TO SUCCESSFULLY MODERNIZE THE RRC SYSTEMS FOR THE KOZLODUY NPP
The companies are successfully advancing in implementation of the RRCS modernization project (Reactor Rod Control Systems) for Kozloduy NPP power units 5 and 6. In July 2025, factory acceptance tests were conducted at the production facilities of ZAT a.s. on the latest RRCS equipment. This equipment is designed to work with various types of drives for power unit 5 of the Kozloduy NPP in Bulgaria. Employees of the nuclear power plant and the main subcontractor ES Group Europe s.r.o. participated in the tests.
All equipment tests were successfully completed within a week. This included a 72-hour comprehensive continuous operation test, followed by a signature of the acceptance protocol.
The RRCS equipment for power unit 6 was delivered to the Kozloduy NPP in the first quarter of this year. The equipment will be installed during the scheduled outages in 2025-2026. The RRCS equipment is being replaced in order to ensure the possibility of supplying non-russian drives in the future.
The RRCS system from ZAT a.s. is the only system capable of working with all known types of reactor control drives at VVER-1000 power units and newer generations, in particular VVER-1200, including the LKP-M/4 drives manufactured by the Czech company Škoda JS with a design life of 40 years, which provide increased maneuverability of the power units. The ability to work with all available drives has been confirmed on the test benches of drive manufacturers.
