EMPLOYEE SAFETY AS A CORPORATE PRIORITY: ENERGY SAFETY GROUP STRENGTHENS OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS MEASURES

Ensuring safe working conditions and employee preparedness for emergencies are important aspects of Energy Safety Group’s operations. Amid the ongoing full-scale war, the company places particular emphasis on practical employee training, fire safety, the physical protection of office premises, and safe working practices beyond the office environment.

One area of this work has focused on preparing employees to respond to situations that pose a threat to human life and health. Energy Safety Group employees have completed specialised first aid and tactical medicine training aimed at developing practical emergency response skills.

With employees based in different cities across Ukraine, the training was delivered by several specialised organisations. These included the Stop the Bleed course conducted by the Soloma Cats Charitable Foundation, training provided by the Vovkulaka Special Training Centre and ISTM School, the Tactical Medicine for Civilians – Basic Course delivered by the NGO Rivne-Takmed, and tactical medicine training based on TCCC-ASM recommendations.

The programmes covered practical procedures for providing emergency assistance. Participants learned personal safety principles, how to contact emergency services, and how to identify and control life-threatening bleeding, including the use of tourniquets, wound packing, and pressure dressings.

More advanced training also covered casualty assessment using the MARCH protocol, airway management, chest injury assessment and care, placing casualties in the recovery position, preventing hypothermia, and coordinating evacuation. Particular attention was given to assembling basic first aid kits and using medical supplies correctly.

The practical nature of these programmes helps employees develop the ability to respond promptly and systematically in situations where timely assistance can be critical to saving lives.

Organisational and technical measures related to occupational health and safety and fire protection included reviewing the allocation of responsibilities, refining employee evacuation procedures, and conducting safety briefings. In line with the Law of Ukraine “On Labour Protection”, the Civil Protection Code of Ukraine, and applicable regulations, the company also inspected fire safety equipment, including fire extinguishers, firefighting equipment, and fire alarm and notification systems. Evacuation routes and related infrastructure were also assessed to ensure their readiness for use in emergencies.

Additional engineering and technical measures were implemented to enhance the physical protection of office premises. These included applying protective safety film to window glazing and installing protective blinds. The measures are intended to reduce the risk of employee injuries caused by shattered glass and flying fragments resulting from blast pressure.

Employee safety beyond the office environment was also addressed. Energy Safety Group developed and communicated to its personnel the Guidelines on Remote Working Standards, Collaboration, and Employee Safety. The document establishes a consistent framework for organising remote work, maintaining internal coordination, and observing safety requirements under different working conditions.

For Energy Safety Group, which delivers engineering projects in the nuclear energy and industrial safety sectors, a risk-based approach is an integral part of its professional activities. These principles are also reflected in the company’s internal management practices, from the allocation of responsibilities and implementation of preventive measures to employee training and the development of emergency response capabilities.

The measures undertaken are aligned with Energy Safety Group’s priorities in sustainability and corporate social responsibility, particularly in the area of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS). They contribute to strengthening the company’s safety culture, improving employee preparedness for emergencies, and enhancing organisational resilience.
