ES Group presented the results of work on the NPHyCo project to the Board of Governors

Representatives of ES Group, Martin Kykal and Vyacheslav Blednykh, took part in the annual September meeting of the Board of Governors for the NPHyCo project. The meeting was dedicated to the work results accomplished this year within the project, intended to last for 2.5 years. The main focus was on reviewing the results that have already been achieved, as well as on the ongoing tasks, the results of which will be presented at the next meeting in a year and at other interim stages. Martin Kykal reported on the findings of NPHyCo research in all areas (work packages) received since the beginning of the project.

It was noted during the meeting that to date the possibility of connecting a hydrogen production facility to electricity and other resources of the nuclear power plant was analyzed for all sites of Ukrainian NPPs. Also, the legislation framework and regulations of Ukraine in nuclear and radiation safety were analyzed, and a large amount of NPP input data were processed. Moreover, the concepts were selected, the first draft of needed NPP modifications was developed for different scenarios of locating a hydrogen station, and ways of licensing a hydrogen station within a NPP were considered.

In general, next year it is planned to continue the feasibility study – in particular, study of the economic indicators and technical features for installing hydrogen stations at nuclear power plants, as well as a significant amount of other studies within the work packages of the NPHyCo project. Active work continues and the results of more in-depth research will be discussed during the next meeting.

It stands to mention that right after the meeting, the activities started in the direction “Preparation of the implementation roadmap”, in which ES Group is the leader. First of all, for further studies the criteria will be developed to select the optimal location of a site for hydrogen production within the nuclear power plant. The first online meeting has already been held, where ES Group proposed the action plan for the work package.
