ENERGY SAFETY GROUP BECAME PARTNERS OF THE YOUTH NUCLEAR FORUM-2024

This year, with the partnership and support of ENERGY SAFETY GROUP, the YOUTH NUCLEAR FORUM was held for the first time, which was founded and organized by the Ukrainian Nuclear Society. From June 28 to 30, the Rivne NPP hosted young professionals and industry experts who gathered to share their experience, knowledge and ideas on the future development of nuclear energy. ENERGY SAFETY GROUP was represented by Bohdan Lankov and Vasyl Korolchuk.

Particular attention was paid to the modernization of existing nuclear power plants, in particular, the possibility of constructing small modular reactors (SMRs) or large power units of the AP1000 type; ways to restore the operation of Zaporizhzhya NPP after the de-occupation of the power plant; strategies for reintegrating uninhabited satellite cities and nuclear power facilities into the economic and energy infrastructure of Ukraine. Divided into teams, the participants worked on their case studies for two weeks prior to the forum.

By the jury’s decision, the first place was taken by the team of experts from the RNPP, ENERGY SAFETY GROUP and AtomComplexPrylad with a project to restore ZNPP equipment and connect the plant to the Ukrainian power system after its de-occupation. The second place was taken by the team of the KhNPP, SSTC NRS and ISP NPP specialists with the topic of calculating the optimal number and location of modular reactors in Ukraine for investors planning to invest in the Ukrainian energy system. The third place was shared between the team based at the SUNPP, Odesa and Lviv Polytechnics universities with the paper on the reintegration of ghost towns that were supposed to be satellites of still unconstructed nuclear power facilities. And the team based at the ZNPP, the INR NASA of Ukraine and the KIPT with a presentation on the possibilities for development of operating NPPs, with options for installing small modular reactors (SMR) or large power units of the AP1000 type.

Supporting young people in their pursuit of energy science development is one of the leading activities of ENERGY SAFETY GROUP, and we are proud to be a part of the YOUTH NUCLEAR FORUM-2024. We congratulate the winners and thank the organizers of the event for their contribution to the development of nuclear energy and support of young professionals.
